The South slopes of the Pyrenees in High Aragon offer a rough landscape of large limestone ranges of Sierras where the transition between mountains and plains caused very peculiar rock formations. You will be amazed by those famous "Canyons" and "Mallos", impressive conglomerate towers in various shades of red ochres under the intense Aragon sunlight.
A natural border where the main belvederes were fortified during the Muslim conquest and the Christian reconquest, the "Mallos" mark the access to the forlorn Natural Park of the Sierra and Canyons de GUARA. Men have long tried to tame that rebellious nature which now reclaims its rights on all these forgotten Sierras where the only remains are an incredibly rich traditional architecture.
Along the ancient trails and former mule tracks, you will discover these now preserved vast spaces, where the "Montañes" civilisation gave way to a privileged space. You will have the unique opportunity to be initiated to the observation of big birds of prey which found on these cliffs, one of the best shelters in Europe.
Our different routes, designed by Bertand and Mari, from the village of NOCITO, nestling at the foot of the TOZAL de GUARA, last outpost of the Pyrenees, offer a variety of contrasts between:
- plains and Sierras, where limitless views on the snowy peaks to the north,
- peaceful rural life of the villages on the south slopes, among olive and almond groves,
- high plateaus with breathtaking canyons.
We can schedule for you a great variety of horse-riding tours, from the SIERRA de GUARA to the MALLOS de RIGLO or the SIERRA CANCIAS, from the HOYA de HUESCA to the SOMONTANO and the SOBRARBE over the whole Pyrenean piedmont of High Aragon, and of course the discovery of all the secrets of the NOCITO valley.

2026 program
For the 2026 program, we will no longer be offering a calendar of tour dates, but only "tailor-made" tours for groups of 2 to 6 riders for between 2 and 9 days on horseback on the dates of your choice (subject to availability) with a personalised programme and quote for each group between 15 April and 30 June and between 1 September and 31 October.
As an indication, for the 2 existing tours below (8 days - 6 days on horseback) the price is 1790€ (for 2 riders).
Option to book the group privately (customised quote based on the number of riders). If the date remains open to other riders, we will adjust the prices based on the number of participants (maximum 6).
For other options for 2- to 9-days horse riding tours, we will adjust the rates according to each request.

Here is the description of two 8 days trails, including 6 days on horseback.
To the south of the Pyrenees, in the Alto Aragón region, lies a rugged landscape of large chains of limestone Sierras, where the transition between mountain and plain gives rise to some very distinctive formations. You'll fall under the spell of these famous "CANYONS" and the "MALLOS", impressive conglomerate towers, displaying a range of glowing ochres in the intense Aragon’s light.
The Sierra de Guara, renowned for its set of canyons, unique in Europe, is also characterised by the wild vastness of its northern flank, where the Nocito valley is still unspoilt.
The difficulty we have in designing new itineraries is the lack of accommodation within a day's ride of Nocito, so for many years we have been using paddocks where we leave the horses for the night and return (the group of riders) by short minibus transfers (maximum 1/2 hour) to Nocito to spend the night at the inn, and give priority to the wildest and most spectacular routes available around the valley. The route is therefore entirely itinerant for the horses, who only return to Nocito on day 2 and day 7 (the last day of the trek).
The Canyon of the Sierra de Guara (Natural Park) - A new version 2025 with 30% of new itinerary
This particularly spectacular tour takes in the whole of the Guara Massif, highlighting the contrasts of the two sides, from the wild valleys of the North to the long galloping tracks through the olive and almond fields on the Southern flank, passing through the main canyons for which the region is famous.
Day 1: Welcome at the Albergue La Mallata in the late afternoon, presentation of the horses and the ride, followed by dinner and overnight at the hostel.
Day 2: Saddle-up stage from Nocito, we get to know the horses and the mule tracks that take us via the San Urbez hermitage and Pardina Bail on the crests of the Sierra d'Aineto to the abandoned farms and villages of La Torre and Abellada, If the weather is warm, we stop for lunch close to a mountain stream with natural pools that invite us to take a refreshing dip. Return to Nocito, overnight at the hostel {5h30 on horseback}.
Day 3: Ride South through the long Guatizalema valley to the viewpoint of Santa Eulalia la Mayor and down through the plain with its galloping tracks to Arbanies. Overnight in a charming guest house {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 4: We ride South to the village of Bierge through a colourful maze of hills and clear rios. “Long galloping tracks through fields of olive and almond trees in the south”. A brisk pace for this full day on the plains. Overnight at the Hosteria de Guara. Comfortable hotel of the village of Bierge {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 5: We return to the heart of the canyons via the Fuente Tamara, skirting the La Peonera canyon, and via the Barranco de Trensus and the Pedruel valley, reaching Rodellar, where we spend the night in flats {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 6: Spectacular ride through the bottom of the famous Mascun Canyon, a remarkable group of stone cathedrals, then a tough climb to the Losa Mora dolmen and crossing the Otin plateau, we reach the hamlet of Miz via the Collado del Aire aerial route before descending to Bara where we put the horses in their paddock and return to Nocito to spend the night (transfer by minibus approx. 1/2h - 11km) {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 7: From the Bara paddock, we start the superb ascent of the Tozal de la Cabeza 1870m via the high pastures of Fenales, from where we enjoy a 360° panorama of over 200km of the Pyrenees to the north and the Hoya de Huesca plain to the south, descending on horseback to Nocito for the night {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 8: Dismissal after breakfast.
The Mallos of the Sierra de Guara (Natural Park) - A new version 2025 with 100% of new itinerary
5 nights at our hostel in Nocito, 2 nights roaming in charming rural accommodation.
Day 1: Welcome at the Albergue La Mallata in the late afternoon, presentation of the horses and the ride, followed by dinner and overnight at the hostel.
Day 2: We head for the Northern ridges to discover the wide panoramic views of the Guarguera valley, and after lunch, join the wild valley of the Rio Alcanadre, which we descend to the village of Bara, where we install the horses in their paddock and return to Nocito to spend the night (transfer by minibus approx. 1/2h- 11km) {~6hours on horseback}.
Day 3: From the Bara paddock, we start the superb ascent of the Tozal de la Cabeza 1870m through the high pastures of Fenales, from where we enjoy a 360° panorama of over 200km of the Pyrenees chain to the North and the Hoya de Huesca plain to the South, then ride down to Nocito for the night. {6 hours on horseback}.
Day 4: We head West through the Guatizalema valley, exploring the Río Matosa and descending to the cliffs and gorge of Cienfuens (numerous Griffon vulture nests) before reaching the paddock at the foot of the village of Lucera, where we leave the horses and return to Nocito (minibus transfer approx. 1/2h- 13km) {~6 hours on horseback}.
Day 5: After climbing to the crest of Pico del Aguila, we head south to reach the spectacular Salto de Roldan, conglomerate towers over 300m high, at the foot of which we descend (45mn walk) to reach the plain and the small village of Apies, where we stay in a friendly guesthouse for 1 night (the guesthouse does not serve dinner), we take the opportunity to drive down to Huesca (a 1/4h drive) where we dine in a restaurant in the old town (and stroll through the historic heart of Huesca) {~6 hours on horseback}.
Day 6: After a superb ride over the plains, punctuated by numerous gallops, we discover the ruins of the medieval castle of Monte Aragon (11th century), from where the Christians launched their Reconquest against the Muslims during the Battle of Huesca. Picnic by the Rio Flumen, after a long gallop, we pass the Viñedo hermitage and its impressive, perfectly restored oil mill before heading for Arbanies, where we spend the night at Casa Oliban, the village guesthouse {~6 hours on horseback}.
Day 7: Via the impressive Mallos de Vadiello, we begin our return journey north towards the wild Sierras, returning to Nocito via the abandoned barn district of Campanales and the pardina d'Orlato. Overnight in Nocito {~6 hours on horseback}.
Day 8: Dismissal after breakfast.
As on our other itineraries, there are also several passages where you have to walk on foot on the steep descents (between 1/2h and 45mn max) and throughout the itinerary, we alternate between mule paths and tracks, particularly in the plains, to allow us to enjoy long gallops.

Here is an example of what we like to offer you for a short stay of 3 days on horseback (5 days in total)
Through the Park of the SIERRA de GUARA as far as the famous Canyon de MASCUN.
Day 1: You arrive at LA MALLATA Inn in NOCITO in the late afternoon. Then you get acquainted with the group of riders and the horse entrusted to you for the whole tour.
Day 2 (a 6 hour-ride): We prepare together the horses to ride Eastward along the PARDINA de la TORRE and the deserted villages of "ABELLADA" and "AZPE". We discover the broad view of the BARA valley where we settle the horses for the night. We are then driven back to NOCITO (1/2 hour) to spend the night at the hostel.
Day 3 (a 6 hour-ride): We are driven back to the paddock and prepare the horses. Once ready, we ride through the canyon of "GORGAS NEGRAS" across the OTIN plateau to LETOSA where we reach the dramatic Canyon de MASCUN. We ride along its left-hand edge to the charming village of RODELLAR where we spend the night at the local apartment hotel.
Day 4 (a 6 hour-ride): from RODELLAR, we ride down to the bottom of the famous Canyon de MASCUN along the river and then up again on the right-hand bank to the COSTERA de OTIN under the sharp eyes of the griffon vultures. IN the afternoon we ride back to NOCITO across the BARA valley through the villages of "USED" and "BENTUE". We spend the night at la MALLATA (a 6-hour ride).
Day 5: End of your stay after breakfast.
A highly varied 3-day tour which allows you to discover the main wild highlights of the SIERRA de GUARA on hardy sure-footed horses.
For a group of 4 to 6 riders, including:
- A professional guide, the horses and their equipment for the 3-day ride,
- 4 nights in a double bedroom, full board.
- The transfers in a minibus, the transportation of reduced luggage on a packhorse up to 4 riders, or in a following car from 5 riders,
This tour can be done in 2 and a half days on a long weekend.
